Your questions. Answered.

We get a lot of questions as a part of the manufacturing process, and below are some of the most common ones along with the answers. If your question isn’t answered below, please contact us and let us know—we’ll get you an answer.

What are your MOQs?

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is a common term used to describe the smallest number of units of a product one must purchase to complete an order. MOQs are a regular practice in the manufacturing industry and Pure & Gentle uses MOQs to manage the flow of resources for both your business and ours, and to ensure stable growth in the long-term.

We understand that each client is unique. That’s why every inquiry that comes in to Pure & Gentle is considered on an individual basis, based on multiple factors.

What factors into cost estimates?

Cost is estimated by a variety of factors, including order volume, product formulation and ingredients, packaging, and labor. Pure & Gentle works closely with you to provide clear, consistent communication throughout the project timeline. We partner together so you can anticipate and track costs and stay aligned with your budgetary goals.

What drives costs of goods?

Costs of goods (COGM) is influenced by many factors, including overhead, raw materials, and labor. Often, the largest driver behind cost is raw materials. That’s why Pure & Gentle works with our partners to find the right balance between your budget and sourcing the highest quality raw materials for your products to ensure we’re meeting all your needs.

What influences your lead times?

Lead times are calculated by a variety of factors. These include the number of days estimated to procure raw materials, to manufacture your product, and to package your product. Additionally, if it’s a part of your project, we calculate the time needed to ship and deliver your finished products. Overall lead times are influenced by the lead times of our vendors who supply raw ingredients and packaging materials, coupled with Pure & Gentle’s production schedules. There are also a variety of factors that can impact lead time, such as the availability of raw materials, transportation delays, labor shortages, and even natural disasters.

Do you pilot on projects? If so, why?

Pure & Gentle will pilot a project for a variety of reasons. For example, we may need to understand a specific formulation’s unique characteristics or assess packaging and equipment compatibility. By periodically testing and learning as our capabilities evolve, pilots can be an excellent choice.

What products do you make?

Pure & Gentle offers a diverse range of product formulations and capabilities across household & personal care categories. We develop household, personal care, baby, and pet care products in a variety of formats, including liquids, pastes, whips, concentrates, hot pour products and extruded bar soaps to meet the needs of our clients. Pure & Gentle also offers a variety of packaging solutions, including bottles, flexible packaging, and plastic-minimizing pouches. Extruded soap vs. cold process soap—what’s the difference?

Though cold process can give you a more creative bar, it’s also more labor intensive and a much more difficult process to scale for a business. This makes it harder on you and your profits. The extruded soap bar process is highly efficient, and it produces consistent, high-quality bars that last much longer than a cold process bar. As a manufacturer, we partner with top global suppliers to use “soap noodles.” These are the pre-saponified base for extruded soap and the foundation of our finished goods.

What is pH and how does it apply to my product?

pH stands for “potential of hydrogen” where “potential” means “power.” pH refers to how acidic or alkaline a substance is, whether it’s a skincare product or even your skin itself. In chemistry, pH measures the hydrogen ion concentration in a water-based solution. Everyone’s skin has its own pH (within a certain range) and bringing your pH into balance helps to achieve healthy skin. Facial skin products and shampoos should strive for a pH close to the skin’s natural range, around 5.5, while regular body soap pH is higher, closer to 9.0 – 9.5.

Do you charge for sample formulations?

No. Pure & Gentle does not charge for sample formulations. We also waive research and development fees.

Can I make a custom die?

Yes, Pure & Gentle has the capabilities to create custom shapes for our bar soaps and other products. Please reach out to a member of our sales team to learn more about creating a custom die for your product.

What kind of testing do you provide?

Pure & Gentle provides our clients with product and packaging compatibility and stability testing in-house. We also work with clients to facilitate any additional third-party testing that needs to be outsourced.

Do you offer regulatory support?

No. Pure & Gentle can acquaint you with the regulatory processes and share its experience, but we cannot act as your legal counsel. Consequently, if you anticipate your product might be regulated, please seek legal counsel to assist you.

What are lot codes?

A part of the quality control process, a lot code (also known as a “lot number”) is a unique identifier for a specific product’s production. Lot codes allow for the product to be individually tracked in the marketplace.

Do you handle logistics?

Yes, we can handle logistics if needed.

Can you help me source components?

Yes. We can help you source your components, either stock or custom. We can also store your hard goods or components to minimize storage hassles and freight costs.
